Most people think that the fault lies with them when they encounter software which is difficult to use or comprehend. Please understand that the real dimwits are the developers who purposely obfuscate their work in order to overly complicate the process. Makes them feel superior; when in reality the superior person is the one who designs systems which everyone can easily use. Technology was meant to make life easier so we can concentrate on doing the job at hand. Instead these marching morons have succeeded in creating systems which are increasingly making all of our jobs not only more difficult; but less pleasant. It is not your fault that the hardware and software are difficult to comprehend; it is the fault of designers and developers who have forgotten their mission. To optimize our on-line experience; not pretty it up with bells and whistles which do little more than a medical system which prescribes drugs to counteract symptoms instead of addressing what the causes of the illness are.

Skies,

To begn with there are applications out there which really do make our lives easier; I should probably compile a list and post it with updates, concerning how I configure my workstations and servers in order to optimize usability. Whe I get some problems fixed on my network I will start later today.

"designers and developers who have forgotten their mission."

sorry but us designers and developers are usually not the ones that provide the "mission" as much as we would like to...

though, I am sure you would blame the dot.com bust on IT folks as well...:-)

anyway, time to be "superior"...

Veblen,

You are right; Actually the real blame may lie with the people in management who place demands driven by marketing and hype. But there still is no reason for any developer to use shockwave flash player to facilitate a simple file upload. This is such overkill as to boggle the imagination. In my office I am the developer, coder, and application implementation person. Surely I would not waste my time making my job more difficult in order to impress some other people in my field. Can someone please explain to me what the rational purpose for using shockwave flash player to activate the share button on the Archive page is. I am still waiting, but als, there is no real reason; or is there?
